Resources For Trainers
Getting Started
Alabama Healthy Kids, Healthy Future collaborates with child care trainers and coaches across the state to enhance the quality of early childhood education. All HKHF trainings are open to trainers, and we offer several Train the Trainer programs designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support child care providers. By empowering trainers, we strive to create a lasting impact on the lives of young children and their families.
Trainers serving early childhood educators have the opportunity to provide trainings in various areas of child health and wellness.
Current Train the Trainer Programs Available:
-
Coaches and trainers interested in providing professional development and technical assistance on Farm to ECE activities can become trained to provide the Farm to ECE Learning Collaboratives. This program requires between 6-8 months of commitment from the trainer to fully implement and includes various tasks that are completed by trainers and participants.
Some of the trainer’s responsibilities when providing a Farm to ECE Learning Collaborative include:
Recruiting ECE programs to participate in the Learning Collaborative
Providing 6 training sessions to participants over 6 months
Assisting participants in completing Action Period Tasks through technical assistance
Tracking and reporting data gathered from participants of the Learning Collaborative
Before starting the Learning Collaborative, trainers are required to complete a 2-hour Train the Trainer covering the Learning Collaborative structure and timeline, the training content, and requirements for trainers and participants. These Train the Trainer opportunities are scheduled on an as-needed basis, and additional trainings can be provided to trainers upon request. Alabama Healthy Kids, Healthy Future can also assist with the implementation of Learning Collaboratives as needed.
-
By completing a two-day Train the Trainer, participants can receive information on providing professional development on physical activity and guidance for offering the PALS training series.
PALS Trainers Receive:
Customized Training: Tailored sessions for Alabama’s ECE providers, focusing on practical strategies to increase physical activity in early childhood settings.
Comprehensive Resources: Access to PALS curriculum materials, including facilitator guides, handouts, and session slides.
Ongoing Support: Continuous technical assistance and opportunities for professional development from AL Healthy Kids, Healthy Future.

Yogapalooza, created by Bari Koral, is a program for early care and education (ECE) programs and trainers that focuses on bringing yoga (also known as mindful movement) and mindfulness into the classroom. Trainers who complete this Train the Trainer program will gain access to a step-by-step, engaging curriculum that includes music, movement, kids yoga, and mindfulness activities.
Participants will receive a full set of proven resources, including PowerPoint slides, handouts, and other tools to support their presentations, along with ongoing support and training opportunities from the Alabama Healthy Kids, Healthy Future team.

Trainers interested in supporting child care programs through the Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care certification process can receive specialized training. This program requires a commitment to walk programs through each step of the certification process, providing ongoing technical assistance as they work to implement the five requirements needed to become certified.
Before supporting child care programs through the Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care certification process, trainers are required to complete a 2-hour Train the Trainer session. This training covers the certification requirements, the support and technical assistance trainers will provide, and the overall structure and timeline of the certification process. These Train the Trainer sessions are scheduled as needed, and additional support can be provided to trainers upon request. Alabama Healthy Kids, Healthy Future is also available to assist with the implementation of the certification process as needed.
If you’re interested in simply promoting the program and spreading awareness, we’d be happy to provide resources for that as well.
After completing a Train the Trainer for any of our offered programs, trainers and coaches will then be a part of the AL Healthy Kids, Healthy Future Trainer Network. The AL HKHF Trainer Network connects quarterly to discuss implementation and receive technical assistance from AL HKHF staff. Trainers also have the opportunity to network with other trainers across Alabama and promote their organization’s opportunities for early childhood educators. Trainers within the AL HKHF Trainer Network also receive updates on the programs that they are trained in, ensuring that they have the most up-to-date information on the programs they are providing.
